First Day of Camp Was Amazing!

Posted on Jun 07, 2010

Howdy Parents,

Wow, what a first full day of camp I have just witnessed at both Singing Hills and Echo Valley!  First, let me tell you your kids are having such a fun time.  I have watched campers experience the thrill of mountain biking in the river, dancing their hearts out under the new laser lights, climbing and rapelling the natural cliffs of the Canyon, singing as loud as their lungs will allow at Roundup, and making cabin friends that will last a lifetime.  Clearly, our staff has already fallen in love with the kids.

Thanks parents for tolerating such a hot Opening Day!  Monday was much cooler and everyone was full of energy throughout the day.  I encourage you to check out the photos that have already been posted under Campics in the Parent Portal.  Our media team is trying hard to capture hundreds of images daily so you can catch a glimpse of your child.

One of the things I love most about LLYC is the session theme.  It is simply pure fun and craziness.  It brings humor and spontaneity to camp in a way that I have never seen anywhere else.  Chances are you will never understand the theme, and I’m not sure I do myself, but the kids will never forget the events that surround their session theme.  Ask them about it when they get home!

If you are wondering how to get a sweet message to your camper, my advice is to use the Parent Portal.  You can launch a quick email or send them a care package through the Sugar Shack Express.  One thing I would say to every parent is “don’t forget to send an old-fashioned, hand written letter to camp.”  Campers love mail call and to get a personal message from you becomes a sacred moment.

Hoping your two weeks are memorable too,

Kevin Mayne
