Worship at Antenna

One morning Echo Valley hiked up to Antenna for a time of worship and a devotional. Antenna is one of the look out points in camp. From the top you can see all of Echo Valley and it’s really a very peaceful place.

The view from Antenna.

On the hike.

Taking in the view.

Once all of camp had reached the top and taken a seat on the ground, one of the guy’s counselors led us in some worship songs. Listening to a crowd of kids raise their voices to the Lord and looking out over a beautiful canyon is one of the most serene moments one could witness.

A single guitar served as the background for worship.

I love seeing kids lift their hands in worship!

All of the kids gazing out over Echo Valley while they sing.

After a few songs one of the girl’s counselors presented an awesome devotional. She covered Matthew 4:18-22 which is about the calling of four particular disciples. These four men were fishermen, and the thing you have to be aware of is that fishermen in those days were the bottom of the barrel. They were some of the lowest in society, but Jesus said to them in verse 19, “Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!” Sure, He could have called others who were more “qualified,” but He chose not to.

Giving the devotional.

Many times we may be the “least of these,” but Christ still calls us to live and work for Him. When He called to the disciples, it says, “They left their nets at once and followed him.” Fishing may have been a job that wasn’t worthy of praise, but it was their life. It was the means by which they put food on their tables and clothes on their backs. When they dropped their nets to follow Jesus, they literally let go of their entire lives.

We are not called to be qualified in order for God to use us. Instead, we are called to be open to Him and trust that he will provide us the strength and the means to get the job done. What is Christ calling you to? What “nets” are you still clutching to?
