This week’s post is a mid-winter shout-out to the Shout-out King himself, Nich Hearn.
Nich’s been on staff with LLYC for a good few years, and part of his longevity has got to do with his capacity for encouraging others. In the summer, each morning’s staff meeting includes a few minutes reserved for what we like to call “shout-outs”, literally shouting out what we see God doing in each other. Nich’s knack for recognizing the quiet, understated goodness in his peers has made him a camp favorite.
My husband, Barrett, tells me that Nich once took him rappelling off of Circle Bluff- the route wasn’t yet ready for campers since the walk back up was pretty rough. Barrett was impressed at the lengths Nich was willing to go to so that everyone could have the experience. Though he had little rappelling experience and probably looked like a colossal dork, he says Nich made him feel like a natural.
Here’s Nich in his own words: “I keep coming back to camp because it’s where I first experienced the relentless love of Christ. That encounter changed my life. Now, it brings me joy to be a part of such a powerful mission with people whom God is using to bring about real transformation.”
