Karla Heath—Director of LLYC (Echo Valley) and HEBFF Internship Program

Karla’s first encounter with Youth Camp was in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado as a guide for LLYC’s Outbound backpacking trip in 2008. Coincidentally, when she went back to Ute Trail to help train a new guide team in 2013, she guided the LLYC summer staff again! This repeated connection eventually lead to her position as LLYC Director (Echo Valley)! She is originally from Augusta, Georgia, and attended the University of Georgia in Athens. Upon receiving a degree in Mathematics and Math Education, she moved to Denver, Colorado, to be a high school math teacher. Her passion for youth, the outdoors, and camping ministry makes her feel right at home with the LLYC team. In her spare time, you will find her sneaking away to the mountains of Colorado to go snowboarding or hiking, exploring the Texas Hill Country, or working on projects for her fixer-upper house in San Antonio. Karla feels so privileged to be a part of and contribute to a team so passionate about transforming lives and creating disciples for Jesus Christ!

Karla also leads the Foundation’s Internship Program for recent college graduates. Though each of the interns perform their daily work imbedded in one of the programs—Youth Camp, Family Camp, Communications, Laity Lodge, HEBFF Outdoor—she pulls them all together for monthly gatherings, leadership development, mentoring, etc.  The Internship Program emphasizes growing as an individual, professionally, personally, and spiritually, in the midst of and through our daily work. Karla loves the Foundation’s commitment to the value of relationship, and is honored to invest in each of the interns through her leadership of the internship program.
