Ryan Hernandez, Camping Programs Kitchen Manager, spent his first summer at LLYC in 2013 learning about the program food ministry functions. A proud third-generation University of Texas at El Paso Miner, he graduated with a degree in Marketing and went to cooking school promptly thereafter, having a blast while earning an A.O.S./Grand Diplome from Le Cordon Bleu – Las Vegas. He has worked in many amazing kitchens including the ESPN Club at Walt Disney World, Roy’s Hawaiian Fusion Las Vegas, the Pine Room at the YMCA of the Rockies, Madden’s in College Station, and The Fat Duck in Bray, England, which was ranked the second-best restaurant in the world at the time of his externship.
In addition to extensive experience in food preparation, Ryan spent several years as a church planter in San Marcos, Texas, with Great Commission Ministries. Ryan says, “I think the best thing about running LLYC Food is that I get to equip and encourage our summer staff in the kitchen and help provide moments of nourishment, rest, and communion in mealtimes.”
Ryan lives in Kerrville, Texas, with his wife, Lindsay, and their two children, Leona and Rafael. A fan of all things Spurs, the whole family cheers for San Antonio, Tottenham Hotspur, and San Antonio FC.
