WORK CREW (GIRLS) AND PROGRAM CREW (GUYS)

In today’s society, people do things to get ahead, to achieve a status, or to make a name for themselves. Laity Lodge Crew provides a radically new perspective on this way of life. Every summer, upcoming seniors travel to Laity Lodge and take a month out of their hectic and fast-paced lives to serve the masses and surrender their lives for others and for Christ.  Crew developed out of a desire of past campers to give back to camp what camp had given to them. As it has progressed, Crew has become an invaluable aspect in the transition from the Christian camper to the Christian servant. Long hours, dirty work, tiresome days, and no pay comprise the Crew experience, yet many leave calling it the most rewarding experience they have ever undertaken. In Philippians, Paul exclaims, “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.” The call of Christ is to serve our fellow man.  Through doing so, Jesus promised us abundant life. Crew means emptying your cup for others and getting it filled by the Master!

Although the Crew spends every day in service to others, there is always time for Christian growth, building friendships, and random fun. When the Crew is not giving their all for the campers, they have a chance to spend quality time in the Word via Bible studies and small-group meetings that foster Christian growth. This Christian growth and bonding are the foundations by which lives are impacted and changed forever.

The Crew also seems to have the instinctive, uncanny ability to locate every dance and celebration that is undertaken in the Canyon known to LLYC. Although they seem to always be at work, fun is no stranger to these young men and women who seem to find it in the most unlikely places. These servants quickly develop friendships that last throughout their lives. Living, working, and carrying each other’s burdens together enable the development of friendships that go beyond time and distance. These joyful servants will find that through serving and giving of their lives they will be living life abundantly!

The Crew at LLYC offers excellent opportunities for upcoming seniors in high school to learn firsthand about servant leadership.  Crew is a voluntary ministry position for half the summer serving the campers and fellow staff without pay.
