Hello LLYC family,
Thank you for your patience in this trying process. Over the last several weeks, we have been monitoring the pandemic, working with the governor’s office, and studying guidelines from the CDC and other medical professionals. We’ve also reached out to many of you to hear your thoughts and feelings. Our incredible team has been diligently dreaming and strategizing how we could make camp work within those guidelines.
After considering the circumstances, I am sad to say that LLYC will be cancelling all programming for the summer camping season.
LLYC is steeped in relationships. It’s about being together. It’s who we are. With the social distancing restrictions and the constant threat of viral infection, those relationships and connectivity are greatly compromised.
LLYC lives on the edge of adventure and excitement, but we do so with your safety in mind. Because of COVID-19, we don’t feel that we can ensure that camp will be a safe place. We take seriously the health and safety of you, your family, and your community, and all of our campers and our staff.
For all of us, camp is an anchor. For some, it is the one place that provides refuge in this chaotic world. We need camp. LLYC is what I call the “real world,” a place where God is overwhelmingly present. His hand is evident in His creation, and His love is vibrantly present in those around us. We will miss the connection with friends, the conversations, the memories, and the tears and laughter. Camp is what we spend nine months preparing for. It’s what we believe God has created us to do.
So we are devastated and heartbroken. But we will be OK, and I pray that you will be also. When we talk about God and Jesus Christ, that’s not just for camp. It’s for life. God is the same at home as He is at camp. We are trusting that God will make His presence known to you until we can be together again.
Proverbs 16:9 says, “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.” We will continue to pursue every contingency plan possible and will trust God to guide our steps. When we are able to get back to the Canyon, we will celebrate as never before! Every camp cheer, every chug and crush, every Sugar Shack, every Roundup, all of it, will be incredible.
We have posted relevant information below, and we ask that you use your phone calls and emails to LLYC only if our website information does not answer your questions. We expect that there will be many things to talk about in the days to come. We will do our best to answer in as timely a manner as possible.
Your encouragement and trust in this time have been deeply humbling. As we grieve this loss, we welcome your continued prayers, patience, and perseverance. We will see you very soon. Until then, know that we love you all. May God bless you.
