A Word from Cary Hendricks

Here we are at the start of a new year. After a restful holiday season, it always seems like a downhill sprint to the summer as we prepare for LLYC and summer LLFC programming to be in full swing. We are interviewing college-aged young adults for summer staff and weekend retreat positions. We are ordering supplies. We are planning Roundup talks, Cabin Time, and devotional materials. Most importantly, we are praying for the Lord to do amazing things in the lives of families, kids, and staff through the work of Laity Lodge Camping programs in 2024.

However, before we move on too quickly in 2024, let’s celebrate all that happened in 2023. Here are some things certainly worth celebrating:

Take a minute to watch this video highlighting the work of the H.E. Butt Foundation programs in 2023.

Keeping the “main things” the “main thing” at LLYC:

  • 91% of parents and/or guardians of LLYC campers who attended Echo Valley last summer reported that the LLYC program effectively teaches about the Christian faith.
  • 98% of parents and/or guardians of LLYC campers who attended Echo Valley last summer reported that the camp experience had an impact on their child.
  • 94% of parents and/or guardians of LLYC campers who attended Echo Valley last summer reported that their child’s faith was strengthened because of the camp experience.
  • 70% of campers who attended Singing Hills last summer reported that they learned something about God and/or their faith through their camp experience.
  • 85% of campers who attended Singing Hills last summer reported that they felt comfortable asking questions about God during their camp experience.

Families who attended LLFC said:

“The ability to disconnect from technology allowed us to engage with one another in a way we haven’t been able to.”

“You can be yourself in the canyon! It is encouraging to meet and see other families that are intentional in their approach to being a family.”

“My husband and I had our best spiritual conversation when our boys were down by the river fishing. Having the opportunity to slow down and connect was such a blessing.”

We are grateful and honored that many of you allowed LLYC and LLFC to have a place in your family’s lives during the past year. We hope to host your family and/or your camper in the Frio Canyon again in 2024. We anticipate another impactful year of God working through the place and the people.
