Email to Parents on May 1, 2026

Thank you for choosing Laity Lodge Youth Camp this summer. As of May 15, 2026, Laity Lodge Youth Camp has received its license from the State of Texas.  We are very excited for another year of fun in the Frio River Canyon.

Last year, the Texas government passed new regulations to standardize safety for youth camps across the state. We worked very hard to meet these regulations and wanted to provide some key information you’ll need as you prepare for camp.

100-Year Floodplain
Starting this year, the Texas government is requiring all youth camps to notify parents about any portions of a campsite that is within the 100-year floodplain. (In any given year, this area has a 1% chance of flooding.) Parents and guardians of campers will need to acknowledge that they have received the camp’s written 100-year floodplain notice, including notice that certain areas of Laity Lodge Youth Camp are located within a 100-year floodplain and notice of the risk of flooding at camp.

Emergency Action Plan
In 2025, we hired The Response Group—national leaders in crisis management and emergency response—to audit and improve our Emergency Action Plan. This plan provides detailed instructions on responding to all manner of events. The Response Group is also helping us update the emergency flip charts and evacuation maps that hang in every cabin.

Flood Warning System
We are establishing a flood warning system that will come online before this summer. This system includes new rain gauges on upstream neighboring ranches, which will provide additional flood monitoring data.

Staff Training
Before every summer, our seasonal staff train on site for a week. This year, we are adding an evacuation drill as part of our training. On April 20, The Response Group (TRG) led our full-time staff in an on-site crisis simulation to practice implementing our Emergency Action Plan in real time. During Staff Week, TRG will spend a day and a half in person with our seasonal staff, training them on the full plan.

Please visit our FAQ page for additional information. We are looking forward to summer!
